Cheers to 2024!

Cheers to 2024! Thank you to everyone who has made our first year a huge success. We can’t wait to help more brides and grooms with their weddings, along with professionals looking for custom suits and shirting!

Happy New Year!  Even though I am (a few weeks) late, I wanted to express my thankfulness for an exciting new year.  Thank you to EVERYONE who made Løv Bridal Sartorial a success in our first year, whether you bought a dress/suit, shared our posts, told friends about us or gave us an encouraging note, we appreciate you!  I am so thankful for all the customers, especially those who have become our friends!

Bridal has been a part of me for over half my life, since I was 16 years old.  No kidding, I have helped thousands of brides throughout my life and am so honored to be able to do so in our own boutique. No matter what life has thrown as us, I have always known I wanted to be there for brides during this time of their lives.  Over the past 6 years, Oscar and I bought this building and completely renovated the upstairs to live in.  With the help of great family and friends, we renovated what is now Løv Bridal Sartorial in 5 months!  Whew!

You are letting me live my best life, where I get to do what I love while still getting to have lunch with my kids (they usually bring lunch downstairs to me!).  I get to work with my best friend to create bespoke suits in a truly tag team effort.  Oscar is truly the fabric expert and can help find the perfect shade of whatever color you are dreaming while I do the measurements.  It is so rewarding to exceed expectations in custom suiting because of the amazing fit and fabrics.

We continuously seek out the best makers in Europe so you can find truly unique pieces at Løv Bridal Sartorial. I had a bride tell me today she had all of these ideas in her head but she hasn’t been able to put them all together in one dress until now.  That is why we do what we do: to make you feel extraordinary.  There is only one you, and we help you feel as amazing as you look.

Cheers to 2024 and we can’t wait to create something beautiful with you!

With Løv,

Oscar and Katie Durán

Throwback to our official Fremont Area Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting in April. Thank you to Matt Mueller with FNBO, Fremont Chamber representative (and friend!) Mandy Ostdiek and Mayor Joey Spellerberg. Magnus and London were excited to use the big scissors: Cozette was not happy she didn’t get to use them. :)

Who should come to my bridal appointment?

It can be a challenge deciding who to bring to a bridal appointment because you want everyone to feel involved, but who should get to come wedding dress shopping? Would you invite your best friend to your cake tasting? Would your mom come with you to pick out your fiancé's ring? Did grandma have a say in your wedding vision when you met with your wedding planner?

It's the big day, the one where the bride says her second most important "I do."  She is engaged, but choosing a dress will be one of the most timeless decisions (besides accepting the proposal) because her dress will be in every wedding picture and truly evokes an emotion.

Julie Vino, Michaela

Chances are, those details were reserved for you and your fiancé and your opinions were the only ones that mattered in those decisions.  However, we have it engrained in our minds that wedding dress shopping should include everyone: your mother-in-law, sisters in law, bridesmaids, grandmas, mom, sisters, but that also gives them the mindset that their opinion will help shape what you will wear.

Shopping for a wedding dress is a very emotional experience for everyone.  It's emotional for the bride but it can also be emotional for the mom, sisters and family because it's the realization that the bride is no longer a little girl and will be a part of someone else’s family.  Sometimes objections to the dress aren't even about the dress but about how they feel a bride should look.  Take it easy on yourself and don't allow the pressure of 6 opinions sway how you feel about a dress.

Think really hard about who's opinion really matters.  Will your mom's opinion of the dress keep you from purchasing something you love?  What if you absolutely love the dress but your sister doesn't?  Will her opinion beat out yours?  Will Aunt Mary very vocally give it the thumbs down because it isn't her taste?  Do you want their honest opinions, or do you want validation in your dress choice because it's a decision made without your fiancé?

Wona Concept, Maddison

My professional tip is to invite 1-2 people who have your best interest at heart.  It could be your mom, it could be your sister, or it could be two of your best friends.  I had a bride last week whose mom didn't live nearby, and she came with two of her friends.  Let me tell you, those girls were the biggest hype girls ever. They were excited for her when she came out in a dress, they complimented things they liked about each dress even if it wasn't her favorite but waited to tell the bride it wasn't a favorite until after the bride said it first.

Friends and family; be gentle with the bride. This is a very big wedding decision that she is making without her fiance. Maybe she has been pinteresting for months and has an idea of what likes. On the other hand, maybe she does not like shopping for regular clothes and shopping for a wedding dress is giving her lots of anxiety. One her wedding dress shopping day, it is your job to build her up and encourage her. Be the best hype ladies you can be!

Anna Kara, Faye

Anna Kara, Yoko

Brides: If you want to involve more people in the dress experience, take part in one of our new reveal appointments. This occurs once your dress has come in and you try your dress on for the first time: this is a chance for your loved ones to get a “sneak peek” of the dress before the big day! A wedding is a big day for everyone; your friends and family are coming together to support your marriage to your fiancé, but they don't have to be a part of the planning decisions to be involved.  There will be many showers and engagement parties where you can spend special time with them while celebrating your marriage.

Now it’s time to grab your trusted friends/family and make an appointment! We are open Monday, Thursday and Friday from 10-5, Saturday from 9-4 and Sunday 11-4. We look forward to helping you find the special one!

Everything You Need to Know About the Wedding Shopping Timeline

Planning a wedding can be stressful. There are so many details and the clock is always ticking; it's easy to find yourself overwhelmed and not knowing when to do what task. Don't panic when you’ve starting your shopping; we will keep you on track to find the best dress in a timeframe that will let you enjoy the shopping experience while checking something big off your list.

It seems like venues now determine when your wedding is based on their availability.  Once you have your venue and date locked down, you can start making other plans.  Wedding dresses typically take between 5 and 8 months to come in at Løv Bridal Sartorial, depending on the designer.  We have carefully chosen designers who have their own studios; they create the dresses `in house instead of having them mass produced in a factory where they have to wait on other designers’ schedules too.

Julie Vino

Next, discuss who will be paying for the dress.  Will you be paying for the dress on your own?  Is a loved one pitching in to help you get the dress of your dreams?  We do not require payment in full to order a dress to assist you in your wedding budget planning.  However, you will get a discount on the dress if you pay in full.

When you order your wedding dress, contact your seamstress so you can get on their list.  Even though your dress isn’t in yet, it would be crunching on time if your dress came in 4 months before the wedding but the seamstress already had as many dresses as she could handle.

Enjoy the shopping experience!  Even though there is no exact time frame of when to order a dress, I suggest starting around a year before the wedding.  If you start shopping a year and a half before the wedding, your wedding style can change between now and then.  If you start shopping 4 months before the wedding, your best option is to purchase a sample dress.  That way, you don’t have to wait for it to come in and can take it home that day.

For the most relaxed yet professional wedding dress shopping experience, contact Katie at Løv Bridal Sartorial at hello@lovbridal.com .

how to buy a summer suit: look cool in the heat

Suits are not just for the winter; our newest collections of fabric are most comfortable in spring, summer and fall. Design a suit that is a representation of you in different fits and colors.

Thinking about wearing a suit in the summer can seem like an oxymoron; wearing some heavy wool jacket when it’s 80 degrees out sounds less than comfortable but some occasions call for the dress code.  However,  there are so many kinds of fabric that are made especially for the summer suiting season.

Summer jackets are typically constructed of light, natural fibers such as bamboo, linen and silk with merino wool to create  a lightweight, breathable jacket.  When holding the fabric up to the light, you can see the breathability while still being spun in an exceptional fashion.  For example, Dormeuil’s spring/summer fabrics are made of 35% worsted wool (a high quality type of wool), 23% bamboo, 22% silk and 20% linen.

Stylbiella Spring/Summer 23 fabric

Summer jackets can be comprised of matching jackets and pants, but the beauty comes in the functionality.  Select a beautiful summer plaid and wear it with linen, khaki or light grey pants. Our newest fabric company, Stylbiella, has created some beautiful colors to create a fun and lighthearted look.  Pair it with one of our made to measure shirts in a summery pattern for a stand out look.

Stylbiella Spring/Summer 2023 fabric

Holland and Sherry is approaching the season with finely woven windowpane, contemporary check, semi plain and bold texture stripe designs in this collection. The fabrics are bold, but not loud. You will definitely be noticed but in a confident, intriguing way.

Holland and Sherry’s summer collection boasts delicate hues of blue, teal, turquoise, warm tans and corals to enhance any wardrobe with modern, yet timeless, pieces. The suit world is going through a revolution where suits aren’t only for seasoned executives; the Millennials and Gen Z’s appreciate craftsmanship and sustainability.  The wool used from these mills are often virgin wool that isn’t chemically treated and spun in a very specific way.  Our mills are known to work with generational farmers to support their economy and family values.

Ready for your summer suit? Which fabric will you choose? We will make sure you will be the best dressed in your made to measure Løv Bridal Sartorial suit.

Destination brides and grooms Choose Løv

Lately, we have had so many brides planning destination weddings. The mountains of Italy, beautiful waterfronts of Mexico, sandy beaches Belize, beauty of Vietnam; so many places to see! These beautiful destination wedding locations made us want to get married all over again.

Destination weddings aren't just a quick trip. Couples are planning week long adventures for their guests to truly enjoy the destination and experience a relaxing vacation.

Oscar has always loved traveling. Right before we met, he just returned from his second trip to Peru through UNO. We laugh because when we met, he asked, “If you could go anywhere, where would it be?” I eagerly shared Colorado.

He paused, being the international traveler that he was and then there is me, “traveling” to the next state over. “Oh,” he said, “have you never been there before?”

“Oh I’ve been a lot of times, I really love it there!” It makes for a funny story about my different we are: my contentment to stay and his sense of adventure.

Don't forget about the men! Full suits aren't ideal for beach weddings, but our made to measure shirts and pants are the perfect way for the groom to get something amazing to wear. Going for the linen and khaki look? Why not pick something that fits them and they can wear again?

Now is the next question: what does a bride wear to a destination wedding? The style used to be short dresses or very simple dresses, but anything the bride wants is acceptable.

We have put together our favorite destination wedding dresses at Løv Bridal Sartorial. You can definitely wear these for non-destination weddings; they look gorgeous everywhere!

Anna Kara, Faye

Anna Kara’s whimsical designs easily translate to a destination wedding. Adorned with delicate lace and sheer lining that essentially melts into the skin, the fitted Faye with tulle fly aways has been a favorite of the brides.

Elena Morar tulle wedding dress no train beaded bodice lace

Elena Morar

The essentially non existent train is what makes this Elena Morar wedding dress perfect for destinations. The flowy tulle will gracefully dance in the breeze but give brides comfort to dance all night long. Picture this dress in a wedding tent lined with edison bulbs off the beach. Swoon!

Anna Kara Yoko detachable lace train simple crepe wedding dress

Anna Kara, Yoko

We loved this dress, but were blown over when a customer pointed out the gingko leaves on the train! The whole train comes off so the bride can have a second look for her reception. Anna Kara’s crepe is unlike any other crepe and hugs the body in all the right places.

Julie Vino, Eden

Let’s take a moment to really admire this Julie Vino dress. It has a train that is actually on the SIDE and brides are loving it. The slit can be lowered to any height you want and the straps are detachable. One of our brides really said, “I just want to make sheets in this fabric and wrap myself up because it is sooo soft!”

Curve size plus size simple crepe wedding dress with sleeves

La Curve, Hila

La Curve has come out with a beautiful collection of dresses exclusively sized 16-32. The romantic bishop sleeves with a simple crepe silhouette creates a stunning wedding look.

Lotus Threads, cape

This has been a really fun piece to have in our store. This Lotus Threads cape can be worn over anything, but looks best with our simple crepe dresses. It really adds a lot of interest with the patterned beads, and again, can be removed for a totally different look after the ceremony.

When we had our grand opening ribbon cutting last month, Mayor Joey Spellerberg stated that we are helping Fremont become a destination. There are so many great things that have recently come and are coming to our downtown and we feel so fortunate to be a part of it.

Mother’s day gifts 2023

We quickly found out that we wanted something that can’t be found around here and also supports other businesses who aren’t “big box” designers.  You might not have heard of our designers yet but that is what we love.  We carefully selected artisans that are hands on in the workflow of the wedding process.

When we decided to open our own bridal boutique, Oscar and I thought hard about what is going to make us different.  What are our values?  What do we have that is different?

We quickly found out that we wanted something that can’t be found around her and also supports other businesses aren’t “big box” designers.  You might have heard of our designers yet but that is what we love.  We carefully selected artisans that are hands on in the workflow of the wedding process.

Emma Katzka Earrings, Jane, $198

Emma Katza earrings, Amy, $118

Our jewelry is all hand made; the makers have even posted videos of making some of the very same styles that are in our store!  Emma Katza designs the most beautiful earrings out of South Carolina but we also love her story.  She is a mom who once posted a video of herself in her car, making jewelry while she waited for her son’s practice to be over.  Talk about a boss babe!  No joke- I have to order another pair of her pearl upside down “u” earrings because I took our sample and wear them almost every day.

Twigs & Honey, $58

Twigs and Honey is a group of women in Oregon who specialize in jewelry, belts, headpieces and have recently introduced scarves.  Their creations are so beautiful and their sparkly earrings have been a customer favorite!

In almost 20 years in the bridal business, I have never felt any veils that compare to the quality of Arial Taub’s veils and she makes them in Michigan!  Funny story on how we met her.  We were at market and were finalizing our Julie Vino order.  Our rep said, “Do you need any veils?  When we have market, I have gotten to know this really great designer.  You really should check her out- she’s just in the next aisle.”  She is the sweetest woman and is open to really customizing pieces for customers.

LCV, $168

LCV, $198

Finally, I have to give all the credit to Oscar for Les Courrones de Victoire.   After weeks and weeks of searching, he came across this maker from Paris.  PARIS!  They are not a big company and even have do it yourself classes in their Paris studio.  These flowers are preserved in a way that they never yellow and they keep their vibrant colors indefinitely.  You know how flowers get brittle and break when you dry them yourself?  Not the case for these beauties.  Seriously, these earrings and headpieces will blow your mind.  They even create boutonnieres to match!

With Mother’s Day approaching, treat your mom, or even yourself, to some of these amazing women’s pieces of art. They are timeless pieces you can feel great about wearing. Send us a message to order or stop by Thursdays-Mondays to pick out a stunning accessory.

Investing in yourself: the best investment

Our made to measure suits are hand crafted by renowned makers in (town) Italy, arguably one of the biggest fashion countries in the world. An impeccable amount of detail is taken into each fully customized suit. The fit, color, buttons, lining and even stitching color are just the basis of a made to measure suit.

Warren Buffett once said in an interview with Yahoo Finance editor-in chief Andy Serwer, “By far the best investment you can make is in yourself.”  At Løv Bridal Sartorial, we whole heartedly believe this to be true.

Oscar has been wearing suits every day to work for the past three years.  He dutifully purchased his two shades of navy and two shades of grey suits  to mix and match with his dress shirts.  However, he wasn’t feeling great.  If it fit through his shoulders, it didn’t fit his waist correctly.  If it fit through his waist, it sometimes looked like he was wearing football pads.  It wasn’t until he purchased his first made to measure suit that he really understood how a suit should fit.

With a made to measure suit, we make every aspect of a suit fit impeccably.  Guys come to us, frustrated with arms not being long enough, waists being too boxy and tight through the arms. The beauty of a custom suit is we take measurements for each area to create a piece that fits you  not only physically but also as an extension of you personality.

Our made to measure suits are hand crafted by renowned makers in Italy, arguably one of the biggest fashion countries in the world.  An impeccable amount of detail is taken into each fully customized suit.  The fit, color, buttons, lining and even stitching color are just the basis of a made to measure suit.

Each suit is carefully constructed with canvas, meaning a layer of horsehair is intertwined in the inside that molds to one’s body, so overtime, it actually fits the body even more properly as opposed to breaking down like many off the peg suits.  We have seen countless times the increased amount of confidence that is exuded when a man puts on his custom suit.

Invest in yourself.  You don’t need to buy a new wardrobe every few years.  Instead, invest in a few quality pieces that will last many years to come. Let us help you create a piece that will feel like nothing you have ever worn before.

To wear a veil or not?

Some brides are hesitant about veils because they think it will cover up their backs. However, it is all about construction of the veil. Veils are created with fine, delicate tulle that is sheer, not opaque, so you can still very much see your back through the veil and it won’t take away from the dress.

The bride stares into the mirror. She loves the dress and it checks all the boxes of her perfect wedding dress list. Something seems to be missing. As soon as the stylist delicately places the veil in her hair, tears usually start flowing from someone in group and the bride solidifies that this is “the one.”

Veils seem to be a staple of the wedding wardrobe but there are so many elements to something that seems to simple. What length do you get? Should you order white, ivory, candle, champagne or go for a color? Should you keep it in your hair all night? Will it block the view of the dress?

Ariel Taub “Gigi” waltz veil

There are many different lengths of veils, but here are the most common.

Elbow – 32”

Fingertip - 40”

Waltz - 60”

Chapel - 90”

Cathedral 108 - 120”
Veils can usually be ordered a custom length, so if there is a very specific length you want the veil to fall, have no worries.

Ariel Taub “Guilliana” fingertip veil

What length of veil should a bride get?

If a bride is 5’ 5” or shorter, I recommend fingertip length or shorter. A waltz length will hit the floor instead of below the knees.  If the veil is longer than fingertip, it can cut the appearance of length and make a line that doesn’t hit at the most flattering spot. Cathedrals also work well because it creates a long, flowing line past the train instead of stopping somewhere on the bride’s silhouette.

Some brides are hesitant about veils because they think it will cover the back of their dresses. However, that shouldn’t be a concern because of the construction. Veils are created from very delicate, thin materials.  When you are wearing a veil, it is sheer instead of opaque; you will still see so much of your back through the veil.

Ariel Taub “Dream” cathedral veil

Q: When should I wear a cathedral veil?
Contrary to its name, a cathedral veil doesn’t have to only be worn in cathedrals.  I recommend cathedral veils for a few reasons.

1.  You want to compliment the details of your dress.  If you have a dress that is busy with lace, beads, etc., a cathedral veil can add to the grandness of the bridal look without taking away from it.

2. You want to dress up a simple look.  I absolutely love a lace trimmed veil with a simple wedding dress.  It can give the illusion of a detailed train without wearing a dress with a long train.

Q: When shouldn’t I wear a veil?
Again, it is personal preference.  It’s popular to take pictures outside with cathedral veils blowing in the wind, which is great, but I do not recommend cathedral veils for outdoor ceremonies.  Concrete and dirt are not materials that do well with fine tulle veils and if there is any sort of breeze, it will keep blowing and not lay how you want.  Even fingertip length veils can become a distraction on a breezier day.  I love a good headpiece for outdoor weddings and forgo the veil.  I don’t know any outdoor wedding brides that said, “I wish I wore a veil.” :)

Q: I like the idea of walking down the aisle with the veil covering my face but I don’t want it to look poofy.  What can I do?

There are two types of veils that get this effect.  A double layered veil Is two pieces of tulle fabric sewn together onto a comb.  The wider the fabric is bunched on the comb, the more volume there will be.  A typical width of fabric is 72” that is scrunched to a 4 inch comb.

A style that is gaining popularity is a circle veil.  This is one piece of tulle cut into a circle but the comb isn’t placed right in the middle.  It is placed off center so it will give you the illusion of two pieces when it is towards the back but there is no bunching on the comb like on a two piece.

Ariel Taub “Dream” circle veil

My favorite veil from Ariel Taub is a circle veil where the stones are actually placed on both sides of the veil so you see the sparkle whether you wear it covering your face or not.  It is absolutely stunning!  Our store sample is a cathedral length but I am really debating getting it in fingertip as well because I love it so much!

Ariel Taub veils are all hand made in her studio in Michigan.  We love to find small businesses that don’t mass produce their products and are very conscientious about their quality of work.

Veils are seen as the finishing touch to a wedding dress. As Michael Kors once said, “Accessories are the expclamation point of an outfit.”

And the winner is…

Bridal Fashion Takes Inspiration from 2023 Academy Awards

Our fascination for fashion goes beyond the awards given for the evening. The Academy Awards is the mecca to see who is wearing who, what styles they think reflect their personalities and who is the most memorable. It’s a time to admire the craftsmanship artists put into their dresses and the thousands of hours poured into their works of art. This year saw a wide range from one shouldered dresses to capes to high slits.

We admire the creativity and attention to detail that our designers put into each dress in our store. We want our brides to feel like they can do anything and are so confident in the wedding dress they choose. It’s a reflection of who they are and want something that will stand the test of time when it comes to fashion.

Take a look at some of the best dressed and Løv Bridal’s wedding dress answers. All of these wedding dresses are in store now to try on! We are thrilled to be able to carry such a diverse collection of wedding dresses from some of the world’s best designers.

Let’s hear it for the boys

Lov Bridal Sartorial is excited to help you find your suit or tuxedo for prom! With hundreds of combinations to choose from, we are confident we will help you celebrate your individuality.

Prom 2023 and winter formals will see the best year yet for suits.  What kind of prom guy are you?  Gone are the days of picking between three different black tuxedos and a few suits; this year really exemplifies our motto: to celebrate individuality!

Are you more classic, on trend, or fashion forward?

You can never go wrong with a classic black or navy tux.  Tuxedos generally have a satin lapel, as opposed to a suit which has a lapel created from the same fabric. These suits and tuxes compliment almost any color of prom dress and can coordinate with a matching tie or pocket square.

2023 is also seeing some great new shades of grey and even a seafoam that isn’t too wild but will definitely get noticed.  These on trend suits look fantastic in pictures and allow individuals to really show off their personality.

If you want to really stand out, we have some great show stopping options for the fashion forward individual.  Light blue and pink are hitting the scene this year with the Euro pants.  Euro pants are almost like leggings and are capri length, stopping at the middle of the calf.  These look best with no show socks and loafer shoes.

Play up the look with a textured jacket. The emerald jacquard is going to be very big this year as emerald is one of the most popular prom colors. It stays toned down with the black pants, softening the look. The jacquard jacket also comes in black, burgundy and royal blue. Try a velvet jacket to get a sophisticated look while remaining comfortable.

We look forward to helping you with prom 2023. Message us to set up an appointment to discover your best look.

I have always loved wedding dresses. I still remember one of my many Barbie dolls from when I was about six. She had a short wedding dress, presumably to wear to her reception, but also came with a removable overskirt and detachable sleeves. I would spend hours creating different wedding scenes with her different outfits. Fast forward almost 30 years and I get to have life sized version of that in our boutique! We have removable overskirts and sleeves are so popular right now.

Beautiful wedding dress with detachable sleeves and sparkle tulle from Julie Vino.

One of the things I am really proud of is the ability to customize our wedding dresses so much. Typically, a dress will come in one cut and then maybe come in 2-3 colors. This is because they are mass produced in factories and they don’t have the time or resources to customize. These companies want to get as many wedding dresses out as they can.

However, we carefully selected designers who still have the heart for fashion, wedding dresses and the process. They have their own makers in house creating the dresses to their clients’ needs. I texted Stacey from La Curve and asked if she could put the lace top of one wedding dress with the flowy skirt of another wedding dress and add drapy sleeves, and she said yes! I emailed Mozey (Who has an 8 hour time difference in Tel Aviv) if he could line a skirt, close up the V in the front and extend the lining from side seam to side seam instead of a V shape. He replied to me in the middle of his night to say absolutely.

We are creating international relationships to create dream dresses for women. I still get to play dress up, except now I am helping women find the dress they will wear for one of the most memorable days of their lives.

With Løv

We realized we have a lot more to say about wedding dresses and suits than we can fit on a social media post.

Welcome to Løv Bridal Sartorial! We realized we have a lot more to say (imagine that!) than what we have room for on social media posts. We decided blogging would be a great way to share our stories. Don’t worry; our social posts won’t change, but this will give us a way to expand more on ideas, events, maybe even a little education about our dresses and suits. If there is something you want to know more about, send us a message and we would be happy to cover it!

With Løv,
Katie
